Who is eligible for PM Awas Yojana

Eligibility for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY):

  1. The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
  2. The applicant or any family member must not own a pucca (permanent) house anywhere in India.
  3. The family should not have received any benefit from any other housing scheme by the Government of India.
  4. The property must be located within the area covered by the PMAY scheme (urban for PMAY-U or rural for PMAY-G).
  5. The applicant must meet the income criteria of the category they are applying under.

Income Categories:

  • EWS (Economically Weaker Section): Annual income up to ₹3 lakh
  • LIG (Lower Income Group): Annual income between ₹3 lakh and ₹6 lakh
  • MIG-I (Middle Income Group I): Annual income between ₹6 lakh and ₹12 lakh
  • MIG-II (Middle Income Group II): Annual income between ₹12 lakh and ₹18 lakh

Additional Conditions:

  • Female ownership or co-ownership of the house is encouraged, especially for EWS and LIG categories.
  • For rural PMAY (PMAY-G), preference is given to homeless families, those living in kutcha houses, landless laborers, and families belonging to SC/ST/OBC/minority communities.
